Consultant Psychiatrists

Dr Alanah "Allie" Lin

MBChB, Fellow of Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists

Dr Lin is a consultant psychiatrist who completed her training in the public sector, specialising in general adult psychiatry. Her interests include difficult to treat depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, trauma related presentations, as well as ADHD. Dr Lin has trained in IPSRT (a type of therapy) and has a passion for addressing circadian rhythm disturbance in mood disorders.

Dr Lin is currently accepting referrals for in-person appointments in Canterbury only.

Dr James Marshall

MBChB, Fellow of Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, Certificate of Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry

Dr Marshall is a Consultant Psychiatrist who completed his training in Ōtautahi, subspecialising in Addiction Psychiatry. His interests include perinatal mental health, trauma and addiction related presentations. He is also trained in CBT (a type of therapy) and enjoys exploring non-pharmacological solutions to mood and anxiety disorders.

Dr Marshall is currently accepting referrals for in-person appointments in Hawkes Bay, and telehealth from Canterbury or Hawkes Bay.

Why see a psychiatrist?

Psychiatrists are specialist doctors with a minimum of 13 years of training. General medical knowledge forms the foundation of their training with further experience seeing a wide range of complex mental disorders consolidating their role as an expert in mental health. Psychiatrists are uniquely placed to look at all aspects of your mental health, and provide a holistic and informed treatment plan that can help you through your mental health difficulties.

Psychiatrists can offer assessment for almost all mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorders, alcohol and drug disorders, and ADHD. They are the best clinician to form a treatment plan with you which could include recommendations on therapy, lifestyle support, as well as medications.

Referrals and Bookings

We see patients between 18 and 70. We do require either a GP or clinical psychologist referral for all initial appointments. This is to ensure that we have a holistic understanding of your needs and so that there is a seamless transition back to your GP or psychologist when you no longer require our services. Once your provider has made a referral, we will email you with further instructions on how to book and what you need to do prior to ensure you get the most out of the appointment.
