Consultant Psychiatrists

Why see a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are specialist medical doctors with a minimum of 13 years of training. They spend 6 years obtaining qualifications to practice medicine, then another two years working in general medical rotations (usually as resident doctors in public hospitals), before being able to start specialist training in mental health, which takes a minimum of another 5 years. Psychiatrists are uniquely placed to look at all aspects of your mental health, and provide a holistic and informed treatment plan that helps you through your mental health difficulties.
They are the best clinician to form a treatment plan with you which could include recommendations on therapy and lifestyle supports. Psychiatrists prescribe medications when necessary and can offer novel treatments that are supported by current scientific research.
Conditions that psychiatrists primarily assess and treat:
-
Depression
-
Anxiety disorders
-
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
-
Trauma related symptoms
-
Personality disorders
-
Psychotic disorders
-
Bipolar disorders
-
ADHD
-
High levels of distress
Referrals and Bookings
We see patients between 18 and 70. We do require either a GP or clinical psychologist referral for all initial appointments. This is to ensure that we have a holistic understanding of your needs and so that there is a seamless transition back to your GP or psychologist when you no longer require our services. Once your provider has made a referral, we will email you with further instructions on how to book and what you need to do prior to ensure you get the most out of the appointment.
